Staff Officer Signals, HQ AAFV

Comms Brief - Jun 1966

The first Staff Officer Signals (SO Sigs) at Headquarters, Australian Army Force, Vietnam  (HQ AAFV) to serve in South Vietnam was Major John Bird.  The Major had two "hats" as he was also the OC ,145 Sig Sqn.   The dual role ceased when 145 Sig Sqn was replaced in March 1967 by 110 Sig Sqn.    The SO Sigs role was rename Chief Signals Officer (CSO), Headquaters, Australian Forces Vietnam (HQ AFV).

The following is the SO Sigs Brief on the commuications situation in South Vietnam June 1966 and was prepare by Major Bird and included a report from Major Peter Mudd, MID (OC, 103 Sig Sqn, 1ATF) for the Director of Signals (D Sigs), which was passed to RASigs Field Force Units.
